Job description

The Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking an organized, collaborative, and detail-oriented Executive Assistant to the Director. This position provides high-level administrative support to the Director, serves as the primary point of contact for IAB, manages the IAB Director’s Office, and coordinates IAB communications and events. Join a dynamic team dedicated to IAB’s mission to advance research and innovation for healthy Arctic communities and ecosystems.

This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in IAB, one of UAF’s flagship research Institutes. You will work directly alongside IAB’s Director and Executive Officer and serve as a trusted partner in shaping the Institute’s day-to-day operations, communications, and events. You'll be part of a mission-driven community of over 40 faculty, 90 regular staff and 100 graduate students dedicated to understanding the living systems of the Arctic. IAB is the home of Toolik Field Station, the Bonanza Creek Long Term Ecological Research Program, the Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, The Alaska IDEA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), the Center for Alaska Native Health Research, and the Center for Transformative Research in Metabolism, in addition to many other funded research and outreach projects led by our faculty and staff. This role is critical to supporting a positive and welcoming atmosphere at IAB, promoting good communication with stakeholders, and ensuring smooth operations in the Director’s office.

Successful candidates will bring experience supporting senior leadership and strengths in communication, organization, judgement and planning. You should be comfortable managing multiple calendars, learning new platforms and processes, coordinating events and communications, and interacting positively and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders. This is a great opportunity for an administrative professional seeking a way to make a difference in a collaborative and welcoming environment. Knowledge of the university is a plus but is not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree and two years progressively responsible experience related to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
