Job description

Major League Hacking (MLH) is the world's largest developer community. About 15% of software engineers worldwide got their start through MLH. Our CEO, Mike Swift, is at the center of our partnerships, our fundraising, and most of what's new at the company. He needs someone who can take real work off his plate, not just manage his calendar.

This is a role for a generalist who thrives in ambiguity. You'll be the person who picks up the thing nobody owns yet, figures out what it needs, and drives it to done. Some weeks that means running point on a corporate filing. Others it means scoping a new hire, chasing an investor update, or setting up a demo environment the night before a client event.

You'll be based in New York and work closely with our CEO in a hybrid capacity, with travel as the calendar demands.

What you'll do:
  • Own the CEO's time. Calendar, travel, prep, and follow-through. Make sure the highest-value conversations actually happen and don't slip.

  • Run the things that fall between roles. Corporate filings, compliance items, vendor and finance workstreams that need a driver rather than an approver.

  • Support investor relations. Reporting cadence, materials, scheduling, and keeping commitments to investors on track.

  • Triage inbound partnership requests that don't fit neatly into a sales pipeline, and route or run them.

  • Scope and support hiring for roles the CEO is standing up, working with our recruiting partners.

  • Handle technical setup and logistics for demos, events and client-facing moments. You won't be shipping production code, but you should be comfortable configuring tools and troubleshooting under time pressure.

  • Travel with the CEO to events and partner meetings, and run the operational detail so he can focus on the room.

  • Experience: 3+ years of executive support experience, startup operations, or similar high-ownership role, ideally supporting a CEO.

  • Able to come into our NYC headquarters at least once a week. Comfortable with 25% travel (more in busy seasons).

  • Startup generalist experience. You've worked somewhere small enough that "not my job" wasn't an option.

  • You manage upward well. You bring decisions with the detail needed to make them, chase without being asked twice, and tell people when something's off track before it's a problem.

  • Technically fluent. You use AI tools daily and can build things with them. You can hold your own in a conversation with engineers. You don't need a CS degree, and you do need to be genuinely comfortable with technology.

  • Deeply organized. Nothing you own gets dropped, and you keep a reliable system for making sure of it.

  • High judgement and discretion. You will be interacting with investors, have access to sensitive company information, and know how to handle it.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity. Much of this work is new, and the first version of it will be yours to define.
