Overview
The Business Development & Litigation Research Assistant will support the Senior Managing Director of Business Development with a particular focus on the legal and litigation market. This individual will play an important role in identifying new business opportunities, researching active and emerging litigation matters, supporting attorney and law firm relationship development, and assisting with strategic business development initiatives.
The position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who is comfortable conducting sophisticated legal and business research, monitoring litigation activity, synthesizing information, and turning research into actionable business development intelligence.
The role will also support client communications, CRM management, meeting and event coordination, marketing initiatives, and day-to-day administrative needs.
This is a full-time position based in our Los Angeles office and will work closely with professionals across GlassRatner's litigation, forensic accounting, expert witness, and advisory practices.
Position Responsibilities
- Monitor new and ongoing litigation, disputes, investigations, and other legal developments to identify potential business development opportunities.
- Conduct comprehensive research on litigation matters, law firms, attorneys, companies, industries, and prospective clients.
- Research federal and state court filings, case dockets, complaints, motions, and other publicly available case information.
- Identify matters that may create opportunities for forensic accounting, damages analysis, expert testimony, investigations, valuation, and other litigation support services.
- Track litigation trends, significant case developments, law firm activity, and other market intelligence relevant to the firm's litigation practices.
- Research attorneys, law firms, clients, opposing parties, experts, and other key participants associated with litigation matters.
- Review and synthesize litigation and business information into concise summaries and actionable business development recommendations.
- Assist in identifying and prioritizing attorneys, law firms, and prospective clients for outreach and relationship development.
- Draft, edit, proofread, and assemble emails, presentations, research summaries, pitch materials, and other client-facing communications.
- Support preparation for attorney, law firm, client, and prospective client meetings, including background research, briefing materials, and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate records of contacts, opportunities, matters, and business development activity within the firm's CRM system.
- Track prospective opportunities from initial identification through outreach and follow-up.
- Develop an understanding of GlassRatner's litigation support services, professional credentials, prior engagements, and individual expert capabilities to help match firm resources with potential opportunities.
- Support litigation-related conferences, sponsorships, client events, direct marketing, website initiatives, advertising, and public relations efforts.
- Coordinate internal and external meetings and assist with travel arrangements, expense reporting, scheduling, and other administrative responsibilities as needed.
- Work collaboratively with senior professionals across the firm to support broader litigation and business development initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 4–5 years of relevant professional experience; experience within a law firm, litigation consulting firm, forensic accounting firm, expert services firm, or other professional services environment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of the legal industry and litigation lifecycle, including familiarity with court filings, case dockets, complaints, motions, and litigation research.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct sophisticated legal, business, and competitive research and synthesize findings into concise, useful summaries.
- Experience with legal and litigation research platforms such as Lexis+, Lex Machina, Westlaw, PACER, CourtLink, Bloomberg Law, Law360, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with CRM and business development platforms such as Salesforce, InterAction, DealCloud, or Nexl is a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, and AI-enabled research and productivity tools.
- Familiarity with additional business intelligence platforms such as S&P Capital IQ, PitchBook, Docket Navigator, or similar resources is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft polished professional communications.
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple research projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong judgment and the ability to identify which information is most relevant to a potential litigation or business development opportunity.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, diplomacy, and client-service orientation.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment.
