The City of New York’s Mayor’s Office seeks an Executive Assistant in Washington, DC to support the Office of Federal Affairs, keeping the Mayor and City agencies informed on pending issues and coordinating with federal partners.

You will schedule meetings, enter data in databases and Excel, review legislation, and facilitate interactions between elected officials’ offices, federal agencies, and the Administration, delivering timely responses.

Qualifications

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization, and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
  • Alternatively, a baccalaureate degree with two years of experience in community work or related duties.
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above; at least one year of experience as described.

The Office of Federal Affairs coordinates the City's interaction with the Federal administration and Congress. The office keeps the Mayor and City agencies informed about pending or important issues affecting the City. The office also advocates on behalf of the city and is the DC liaison between the City and other cities seeking to work together on federal issues.

  • You can review and track legislation.
  • You can facilitate interactions between elected officials' offices, federal agencies, and the Administration, including responding to requests from members and staff promptly.
  • You can assist FLA staff with meeting preparations.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization, and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

  • You have strong problem-solving and organizational skills. - You have administrative experience in a busy, high-demand, deadline-oriented environment. - You can multitask. - You have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. - You are proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Teams, Adobe, and Outlook.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
