Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Market Access & Patient Services, the Exec. Director, US Market Access will lead a team of Market Access Directors in access and pull-through strategies. In addition, this role has the added responsibility as managed care and coverage lead for National and Regional accounts in an assigned region of the United States. This position is responsible for driving US Market Access strategy, managing business relationships within her/his assigned geography and guiding pull-through efforts for BioCryst products in aligned geography/accounts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coach and develop a team of Market Access Directors to ensure access and pull-through strategies are executed across all regions for optimal coverage of BioCryst products.
  • Develop overarching strategy with VP market access and a cross-functional team
  • Develop and presents strategic account plans for assigned payer vertical
  • Work with assigned account(s) to prepare for future product launches
  • Assist in building and leading a high performing team to ensure access to BioCryst products and execute pull through strategies that maximize patient access, revenue and profitability.
  • Work with sales, marketing, patient services, specialty pharmacy(s) and finance teams, recommend and execute a US managed care marketing strategy for payer and distribution channels, including commercial insurers, Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), Integrated Health Networks (IHN), specialty pharmacy and distribution, State Medicaid, Medicare, and Federal VA/DoD channels.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Services and Value and Access teams to create pull-through materials for US payers.
  • Initiate and lead interactions with US payers to build awareness of BioCryst products.
  • Monitor trends and potential coverage and reimbursement issues, existing and emerging government and payer policies, competitive pricing and contracting strategies, and potential barriers to provider and patient access.
  • Responsible for proactively triaging of internal communication, engaging Sales Leaders and other internal stakeholders in identifying opportunities and/or resolving issues specific to compliant patient access
  • Serve as a field expert on all Market Access and fulfillment needs for assigned accounts.
  • Prepare business updates and/or Business Plans aligned with Market Access, Sales and Marketing and individual objectives.
  • Partner with assigned Health Outcomes Payer Liaisonto proactively communicate approved disease education messages for therapeutic areas of interest including responding to therapeutic class reviews, unsolicited request or other compliant inquiries.
  • Serve as liaison (or lead) on special access projects linked with National PBM’s/Payers, Regional Managed Care Professional Societies and Managed Care Associations as needed (e.g. PCMA, AMCP, etc.).
  • All other duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated use of negotiation skills in a complex and increasingly crowded rare disease market.
  • Demonstrated ability to use clinical and other value-related data to minimize contracting or eliminate the need to contract with a payer.
  • Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • At least 10 years’ experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) in the biopharmaceutical industry, with at least 5-7 years in US market access operational and strategy roles.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of market access professionals a plus (including regional or national account management leadership)
  • Specialty product launch experience in the US; rare disease therapeutic launch experience a plus.
  • Experience with national payers, regional payers, government accounts, and field reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of specialty pharmacy, distribution and hub services models with the ability to translate the understanding into a successful business model for an oral, rare disease medication.
  • Deep understanding and compliance with the OIG and FDA regulations governing pharmaceutical marketing and the PhRMA code.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, crafting innovative options, solving problems and prioritizing projects, excellent communication skills and collaborative work style.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, financial acumen, motivated by start-up environment with the ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Travel up to 20-30% domestically.
