Job summary

Sanford Contractors is seeking a dedicated Excavator Operator for our Grading Operations division. This role focuses on safe, efficient operation of production excavators (e.g., CAT 345/346/349) on site grading and earth-moving projects.

You will perform equipment checks, assist with utility location, unload materials, rig loads safely, and mentor crew members while upholding daily project safety standards. Strong communication and OSHA knowledge are essential.

In this role, you will safely and efficiently operate production excavators (such as CAT 345, 346, and 349) for site grading and earth-moving projects. Key responsibilities include performing daily fluid and equipment checks, assisting with utility location, unloading materials, rigging loads safely, maintaining clean equipment, and reporting issues promptly to the Pipe/Grade Foreman. Beyond machine operation, you will lead by example by practicing site safety, recognizing and correcting hazards, mentoring crew members, and attending daily project huddles.

Candidates must possess strong communication skills in English, working knowledge of OSHA standards, attention to detail, and a dependable, professional work ethic. Preferred certifications include OSHA, MSHA Part 46, Trenching and Shoring Competent Person, Rigging, and First Aid/CPR.

Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders regularly. Work involves frequent shoveling, raking, using hand tools and handling materials in and around trenches or uneven terrain.
