Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Nurse Practitioner license in the United States.

  • Prior experience with medical disability examinations preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Client Job Description

As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in relation to their in‑service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, and by providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran.

Pay: Base + Monthly incentive = $136,593–$166,593 a year

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. 10% travel is required to support other LSGS Clinics.
  • Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the veteran’s medical history and health condition.
  • Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings and record review, providing unbiased and evidence‑based conclusions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activities.
  • Understand and work within the case management system, including organizing workload, submitting examination findings, and corresponding with the Quality Assurance team.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information and insights when needed.
  • Document examination findings in clear, concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
  • Partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources that help complete tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Manage time effectively, ensuring timely submission and confirmation of availability for all C&P exams.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations.
  • Maintain compliance with VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of patient information and examination results in accordance with privacy and security protocols, including HIPAA compliance.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in all U.S. states and territories.
  • At least 1 year of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Preferred prior experience conducting medical disability examinations or a related field.
  • Basic Life Support certification (including renewals).
  • Previous military experience or familiarity with the military or veteran communities preferred.
  • Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based medical opinions.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach toward patients, ensuring a respectful and patient‑centered evaluation process.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret complex medical information and reach objective conclusions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex medical concepts in clear terms and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
  • Unwavering commitment to ethical standards, maintaining objectivity, and ensuring fairness in evaluations.
  • Detail‑oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy, data quality, and alignment with LS and VA standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and shift focus quickly.
  • Strong customer focus and sense of urgency.
  • Authorized to work in the United States, including meeting federal contractor requirements.
Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding, carry out detailed instructions, and solve problems involving a few variables.

Technological Ability

Competent in MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, and electronic medical records systems. Familiarity with Teams and learning management systems preferred.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times and perform full range of motion to conduct physical examinations.

Travel Requirements

10% travel to support other clinics; additional travel for training or company events.

Schedule Requirements

Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm standard schedule. Holidays and clinic closures apply.
