Job description

Position Purpose

As an Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to their in‑service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran; by providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. 10% travel is required to visit other LSGS Clinics.
  • Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s medical history and health condition.
  • Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings and diagnostic results, providing unbiased and evidence‑based assessments of the extent of the Veteran’s health issues and their impact on work and daily activities.
  • Operate within a case‑management system to organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and specialists to obtain additional medical information and insights as needed.
  • Document examination findings accurately in medical opinions and recommendations following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
  • Partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources for task completion and deadline adherence.
  • Manage time effectively and confirm availability and scheduling for all C&P exams.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, maintaining the highest level of accuracy, fairness, and quality.
  • Submit thorough and accurate examination findings in collaboration with the QA team.
  • Maintain compliance with all VA training requirements and keep updated on VA MDE program requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, safeguarding all information in accordance with privacy and security protocols and HIPAA compliance requirements.

Important: This position does not involve prescribing or treatment planning/delivery.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practice in any of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or any U.S. territory.
  • At least one year of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Preferred experience in conducting medical disability examinations or a related field.
  • Basic Life Support certification required (with renewals).
  • Previous military experience or familiarity with the military or veteran communities preferred.
  • Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in comprehensive medical assessments, diagnostic test interpretation, and formulation of evidence‑based medical opinions.
  • Empathy and compassionate approach toward patients, ensuring a respectful and patient‑centered evaluation process.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills to interpret complex medical information and reach objective conclusions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex medical concepts clearly and present findings to diverse audiences.
  • Unwavering commitment to ethical standards, objectivity, and fairness in disability evaluations.
  • Detail‑oriented mindset focused on accuracy and data quality, aligned with LS and VA standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple initiatives and adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong customer focus and a sense of urgency.
  • Authorized to work in the United States, including compliance with federal contractor guidelines.
  • Reasoning ability: apply common sense, follow detailed instructions, and solve problems with limited variables.
  • Technological ability: competent in MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, electronic medical record systems; familiarity with Teams and web‑based learning management systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must have full vision, hearing, sense, and range of motion to safely conduct comprehensive physical examinations.
Travel Requirements
  • 10% travel required supporting other clinics; additional travel for required training or company events.

Pay: $106,873.60 – $196,873.60
