Job summary

Archer, an aerospace company based in San Jose, California, is seeking a Powertrain Architect to size and optimize a next-generation eVTOL hybrid-electric propulsion system. You will work with vehicle and structures teams to integrate powertrain models into Archer's vehicle-level sizing and performance predictions.

You will trade architectures, size motors/generators, model battery behavior, and develop thermal management concepts, contributing to a scalable powertrain stack for future aircraft.

Qualifications

• Background in hybrid-electric, turbo-electric, or conventional turbine propulsion.
• Experience in at least two of: electromagnetic sizing of motors/generators; thermal management system sizing; battery modeling.
• Proficiency with electromagnetic/thermal design tools and Python preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and trade hybrid-electric powertrain architectures, including battery storage and motors/inverters.
• Size electric motors/generators from first principles and validate with solvers.
• Size thermal management system architecture for major powertrain components.
• Generate performance/efficiency maps for motors/generators across operating envelope.
• Model battery charge/discharge behavior to inform sizing and duty cycles.
• Estimate thermal limits/duty cycles for motors, inverters, and batteries.
• Build powertrain models for integration into vehicle-level MDO stack.
• Collaborate on packaging/weight/integration with vehicle/structure teams.
