Job summary

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair District vehicles, perform preventive maintenance, testing, and inspections, and respond to emergencies as needed. The role is onsite, full-time, 40 hours per week, and IAFF Local 3390 represented.

Required qualifications include five years as a diesel mechanic with at least three years at journey level, WA CDL Class B, EVT Level 1, and proficiency with diagnostic equipment. Night/weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years of job experience as a diesel mechanic, with a minimum of three (3) years journey level experience.
• Experience using computer based diagnostic equipment/programs.
• Valid Washington State Driver’s license with a minimum Class B CDL endorsement.
• Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Fire Apparatus Track Certification, Level 1.
• Must have and maintain a valid WA State Driver License with a minimum Class B CDL endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair all District vehicles, ensuring a fleet capable and ready to respond under emergency conditions.
• Provide routine preventative maintenance, perform testing and inspections and be available for emergencies as well as routine repair work.
• Inspect vehicles and mechanical systems for defects to ensure they meet all performance specifications and safety standards.
• Maintain proficiency to repair, overhaul, and adjust gasoline and diesel engines, engine driven equipment, and all other vehicle systems.
• Perform annual service tests for engine and pump certifications.
• Keep records of repairs and maintenance performed.
