Job summary

Kitsap Mental Health Services in Bremerton, WA is seeking an Environmental Services Floor Care Team Lead to supervise floor care across campuses. Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking an Environmental Services Floor Care Team Lead to support floor care operations across our campuses. This role combines hands‑on floor maintenance with day‑to‑day leadership of Floor Care Technicians. The position helps ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and well maintained for clients, staff, and visitors. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily direction and guidance to Floor Care Technicians.
  • Coordinate floor care assignments and project work across KMHS locations.
  • Monitor quality standards and ensure work is completed according to agency expectations.
  • Train staff on floor care techniques, equipment operation, safety procedures, and infection prevention practices.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and support to Floor Care Technicians.
  • Assist with workflow coordination, staffing coverage, and scheduling needs.
  • Work closely with the EVS Supervisor to coordinate daily operations and special projects.
  • Perform advanced floor care and carpet maintenance using approved methods and specialized equipment.
  • Operate floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, spot cleaners, vacuums, and related equipment.
  • Identify flooring deficiencies and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
  • Respond to spills, hazards, and urgent environmental service needs.
  • Follow infection prevention standards and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure safe handling, storage, and use of chemicals.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of floor care equipment.
  • Report damaged equipment, facility concerns, security risks, and safety hazards.
  • Follow OSHA requirements and healthcare safety standards.
  • Work independently when needed while maintaining communication with leadership and team members.
  • Travel between KMHS campuses to complete assigned work.
  • Support broader environmental services needs as operationally required.
Minimum Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Two years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience in floor care and maintenance. Three years of leadership experience involving direction staff, assigning work, and maintaining quality standards.

LICENSES/CREDENTIALS: This position requires driving company and personal vehicles on behalf of the agency. Incumbent must meet all agency driving requirements, including being at least 21 years old, having been licensed for a minimum of three years, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver’s license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
  • Hands‑on experience with advanced floor care techniques, such as carpet cleaning.
  • Proficiency operating professional floor care equipment.
Performance Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of materials and methods used to clean and maintain floors of various materials.
  • Working knowledge of floor care equipment, sufficient to perform routine maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
SKILLS:
  • Must be able to work independently and display good organizational skills.
  • Sufficient human relations skills to work as a cooperative member of a team and to serve internal customers.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate team activities effectively.
ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Understand safety data sheets and safe chemical handling practices.
    • Work as a member of a crew and maintain harmonious work relationships.
    • Complete routine daily tasks.
    • Read, understand, and interpret work schedules and diagrams. Requires the ability to understand written and oral instructions.
    • Work variable schedules to facilitate efficient project completion and special events.
    • Observe safe work practices and handle hazardous materials according to accepted procedures.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. Use of floor care specific equipment such as brooms, mops, spot cleaners, commercial floor buffer and carpet cleaning machines.

Work Environment: Office, indoors, outdoors.

Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is required to have:

  • The ability to function indoors in an office environment and outdoors engaged in physically active work.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull:
    • Up to 10 pounds (frequently)
    • Up to 20 pounds (occasionally)
    • Up to 50 pounds (seldom)
  • May require the ability to lift from the floor, waist, or overhead objects up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ambulatory ability to move to different work locations and bend, stoop, climb, and perform inspections.
  • The ability to wear various protective equipment, work in areas with extreme temperature variation, and work in cramped or uneven spaces.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning machinery and handle specialized tools with precision.
  • Visual acuity to observe worksites, read written materials.
  • Auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone, including projecting voice in noisy work settings.
