Job summary

Dakota County in Hastings, MN is seeking a part-time Evidence Technician to coordinate daily evidence tasks, maintain chain of custody, and support the storage and handling of property and evidence. The role may involve crime-scene assistance and coordination with law enforcement partners.

Qualifications include a high-school diploma, one year of criminal justice clerical experience, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high-school diploma.
• One (1) year of experience in a criminal justice related clerical, support or administrative position.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Combination of experience in criminal justice clerical roles and education to equal one year.

Responsibilities

• Inventory, and maintain chain of custody of property and evidence submitted by Sheriff's Office Personnel by entering and recording evidence into records management systems.
• Inventory, release of property, and organization of Sheriff's office property room.
• Disposal of unwanted or abandoned property pursuant to policy and state statute.
• Monitor, empty, and properly dispose of pharmaceuticals collected under the Sheriff’s Prescription Take-Back Program.
• Destruction of cleared narcotics, weapons, and bio-hazardous materials.
• Testify in court as necessary regarding the integrity of proper storage, preservation, and transportation of evidence.
• Securely transport evidence to and from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in St. Paul, or other law enforcement entities.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing/scanning/copying documents and records, producing reports as necessary.
• Work with county and city attorney's offices for evidence viewing, disclosure and preparing evidence for court.
• Assist Detectives at search warrants and crime scenes with evidence collection.
• Conduct forensic processing such as DNA swabs, fingerprint collection, and entering shell casings into the National Ballistic Network (NIBIN).
• Complete inventory checks of medical supplies and order more if needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
