Job summary

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department seeks an Evidence Technician responsible for receiving, receipting, storing and controlling physical evidence and property, while performing administrative tasks to support law enforcement personnel and the public. Responsibilities include processing records, warrants and subpoenas, producing statistics, maintaining equipment, and providing testimony as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
• Three (3) years of full-time office work experience including data entry and records management.
• OR one (1) year of full-time office work experience in a municipal police department including data entry and records management.
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Receives, receipts, inventories and maintains evidence and property in a secure manner.
• Ensures evidence related documentation is complete and accurate.
• Facilitates disposition of obsolete evidence and communicates with outside agencies.
• Transports evidence to and from law enforcement agencies and labs.
• Maintains and files departmental arrest records and files.
• Performs administrative tasks for warrants and subpoenas.
• Processes and maintains records relating to bookings.
• Completes records and statistical reports as required.
