Job summary

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner is seeking a permanent Evidence and Property Control Specialist to oversee EPCS I assignments, train staff, and ensure proper handling of evidence and property from autopsies. Dependable personnel will drive agency vehicles and maintain case disposition records.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or 60 college credits, plus two years of security/law enforcement experience or equivalent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus security/law enforcement experience or 60 college credits.
• Must possess a NY driver license valid for duration of employment.
• Special Patrolman qualification may be required per NYC Police Department rules.

Responsibilities

• Organizes workflow and assigns EPCS I tasks and evaluates performance.
• Communicates information to staff and OCME colleagues.
• Prepares staff performance evaluations for management review.
• Trains and mentors assigned staff.
• Supervises EPCS activities and initiates progressive discipline as needed.
• Assists MEs in the autopsy suite by handling property collected during autopsy.
• Operates agency vehicles to fulfill evidence and property duties.
• Inspects vehicles to ensure removal of evidence retrieved from authorities.
• Uses computer terminal to input/retrieve case disposition information.
• Performs duties at Assignment Level I when required.
• Other duties as assigned.
