Job summary

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in New York City is seeking a permanent Evidence and Property Control Specialist to organize workflows, supervise EPCS staff, and manage inventory of evidence and property emerging from autopsy-related activities.

Responsibilities include coordinating with MEs, training staff, performing evaluations, and ensuring secure handling of evidence, with potential for 24-hour readiness during emergencies and mandatory DNA sampling as noted.

Qualifications

  • A four-year high school diploma or educational equivalence.
  • Two years of full-time experience in security, law enforcement, and/or active military duty; or 60 college credits with at least 2.0 GPA.
  • Valid motor vehicle driver license required to be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes workflow and oversees EPCS I assignments and performance.
  • Communicates information to staff and OCME personnel.
  • Prepares performance evaluations for staff and submits them for review.
  • Trains and mentors assigned staff and oversees discipline when needed.
  • Supervises EPCS activities and ensures vehicle safety and readiness.
  • Operates vehicles for evidence and property control duties; inspects vehicle conditions.
  • Uses computer terminal to input and retrieve case disposition information.
