Job summary

The Department of Social Services (DSS) through HPA/RAU is recruiting three Associate Benefits Specialist II positions to serve as Housing Court Specialists in NYC. You will review and authorize payments for eviction-related services, coordinate with landlords, tenants, and attorneys, and help prevent homelessness by ensuring emergency rental assistance and arrears payments are processed promptly.

Minimum qualifications include a four-year high school diploma with relevant social/human services

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant human services experience.
• Bachelor's degree plus related experience or equivalent substitutions.
• Experience in social/human services and employment assistance is valued.
• Ability to use program databases and case-management systems.

Responsibilities

• Review and authorize payments for eviction-related services and arrears.
• Assess and verify emergency rental assistance and related costs.
• Interviews with family heads to determine needs for emergency rent deposits.
• Coordinate with landlords, tenants, attorneys, and judges to prevent eviction.
• Maintain logs and complete reports on case dispositions.
