Overview

Summary/ Objective The position of a CDL Operator undertakes various transporting duties and responsibilities include transporting machinery or work tools to client work sites. A CDL Operator will perform work as required to maximize the quality of the Company while maintaining the specified expectations of the client and ensure safe working environment while performing work and will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  1. Inspect truck and trailer for defects and safe operating conditions; before, during and after each trip.
  2. Submit drivers logs as required and written reports on the condition of the truck/trailer at the end of each trip or tour of duty as necessary.
  3. Check shipping documents to determine the nature of the load and verify for accuracy.
  4. Install and remove tire chains as required by weather conditions.
  5. Drive truck/trailer to and from designated destinations following all local, state and DOT laws and rules.
  6. Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather.
  7. Must be able to operate equipment in all types of weather and conditions, including going forward and backing up long distances, around corners, and in and around very tight areas.
  8. Report all accidents and incidents involving drivers or company equipment according to company procedures and policies.
  9. Report highway safety hazards noted in route.
  10. Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies, or in the event of irregularities relating to pick up or delivery of cargo.
  11. Safely and legally operate commercial motor vehicle(s).
  12. Follow all Company Safety, Quality Control/ Quality Assurance procedures, DOT and OSHA guidelines.
  13. Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  14. Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
  15. Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment This job operates in a petrochemetry / refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months. Exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees will be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position of a Driver can be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. A Driver will frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 51 pounds. Must be able to work at heights and be able to climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms. Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the US Department of Transportation. Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 11 hours. Must be able to climb ladders located on units and customer locations. Must be able to climb on all types of equipment at loading and delivery sites as required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full‑time position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over‑time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.

Travel Travel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 5 years’ driving DOT regulated vehicles. Must hold a class “A” or “B” driver’s license and a clean MVR. Must have previous commercial driving experience or have graduated from an accredited commercial driving school. Must have ability to read maps, road signs, maintain record of duty status, etc. Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance. Strong understanding of oil & gas industry and required knowledge of Quality System standards. Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision.

Preferred Education and Experience Petrochemical/refining experience.
