Job summary

Carbon County is seeking an Events and Recreation Assistant to support the Recreation, Fairgrounds, and Events teams. The role involves helping set up facilities, assist with programs, supervise activities, and help staff events, with attention to safety and clean facilities.

The position is part-time with a starting wage of $12.00 per hour and a post-probation wage of $13.20 per hour. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is expected, and some certifications may be required for

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in sports and recreation programs is a plus.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License.
  • May require various certifications as needed for facilities functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the setup, operation, breakdown, and cleanup of scheduled events.
  • Assist with recreation programs, including preparing facilities and equipment and setting up and breaking down athletic activities.
  • Provide program supervision or serve as an official as assigned.
  • Work special events, recreation programs, and other departmental activities as needed.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining facilities in a safe and operable condition.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Overall Responsibility

Will provide general assistance to the Recreation, Fairgrounds, and Events Departments under the direction of the Athletics Program Coordinator, Events Center Coordinator, or supervisor. Will help with recreation programs as assigned, including preparing facilities and equipment, setting up and breaking down athletic activities, providing program supervision, or serving as an official. Will assist with the setup and breakdown of scheduled events and perform other duties as necessary to maintain facilities in a safe and operable condition.

Key Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Assist with recreation programs, including preparing facilities and equipment and setting up and breaking down athletic activities.

  • Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills And Attributes
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must have strong people skills and the ability to remain professional without engaging in unnecessary conflict with guests, participants or spectators.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other organizations, supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in sports and recreation programs is a plus.

Physical Requirements May Include
  • When talking, one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to inspect products, drive vehicle, and/or operate machinery.
  • The ability to perform light to strenuous physical/manual labor as required.
  • The ability to use safe lifting techniques to routinely lift/carry/push/pull 25-pound objects and occasionally lift and move objects a minimum of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions May Include
  • Work can be performed indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to adverse weather and/or unfavorable conditions.
  • Performing work around moderate to high noise levels, vibrations, chemicals, dust, flammable materials, and mechanical equipment.
  • Shall be expected to wear appropriate (PPE) personal protective safety equipment including safety shoes, glasses/goggles, ear plugs, gloves, and other safety gear as needed.
