Job description

Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine operational duties associated with the day-to-day events in the Riverfront Convention Center of Craven County.

Essential Functions
  • Event Preparation Assistant will perform manual duties including lifting of moderate to heavy amounts of weight in the form of tables, chairs, staging, step units, moveable walls, and audiovisual equipment as well as other objects as required. Indoor and Outdoor general custodial duties of cleanliness in all public areas during and after events.
  • Provides backup support to the Riverfront Convention Center staff as needed during scheduled work such as preparing meeting rooms outlined on the setup check list for setup and teardowns.
  • Reads and understands Event Preparation Sheets/Events Order sheets and floor plans for event setups to determine equipment needs. Performance will be directed and supervised under the Convention Center Director.
  • Maintains an irregular work schedule as required to service the scheduled events and routine assignments within the Riverfront Convention Center. Hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Performs other duties and functions as required.
  • May be required to serve during time of disaster.
Minimum Education And Experience

High School graduation or equivalent, or any equivalent combination of training and experience to perform the requires job duties.

Special Requirements

G.S. 153A-94.2(b) Subject to SBI criminal history record check prior to hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and fellow coworkers. Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions accurately. Ability to communicate via a mobile radio. Ability to demonstrate basic setup techniques with a general knowledge of special event equipment. Ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength. Ability to demonstrate basic cleaning knowledge. Ability to communicate with people in a pleasant manner. Ability to shift from manual work to communicating with people.

Additional Information

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of general cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment including, but not limited to vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, weed‑eaters, rakes, shovels, mowers, etc. Requires the ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently and physical abilities such as lifting, bending, stooping, standing, walking, etc., for long periods of time. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are those for Medium Work.
