Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (or 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • Two or more years of demonstrated experience working in production or technical operations in a performing arts venue, rental facility, or similar facility preferred.
  • Ability to gain a working knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions, cinema, and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; event coordination.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative, persistence in completing assignments, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule of day, night, weekend and holiday depending on events assigned.
  • Demonstrated expertise with office equipment including computer, scanner and fax; experience with computer software including Microsoft Office required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, schedules and implements the production resources and event services required for each JSC event within required time limits and to customer satisfaction.
  • Obtains event specifications, event riders, permits and documentation from clients, vendors, and other departments as required.
  • Advises producers, lighting and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of production resources (stage lighting, sound, multi-media, rigging, costuming, set design, cinema and custom resources) required for the individual production, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.
  • Operates, monitors, and maintains facility equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
  • Communicates in a professional, effective, and timely manner with facility users, clients, event staff, and vendors.
  • Utilizes room management system to book events and generate event agreements; coordinates invoicing, payment and deposits using established college procedures.
  • Operates, maintains and safeguards assets of the assigned facilities for Victoria College, including supervising the use and maintenance of production and event resources.
  • Assists in recruiting, training, assigning and supervision of volunteer or paid event staff.
  • Orients event producers to safety, appropriate city ordinances, fire code, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the facilities by producers and others engaged by or renting the facility.
  • Arranges for repairs and replacements of equipment and resources within budgetary constraints; implements preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Designee responsible for the event facility and Victoria College interests unless specifically designated otherwise.
  • Monitors events to facilitate operations, respond to emergencies/problems, and proactively handles resource issues.
  • Assists with the preparation of production budgets and timelines; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor regarding capital purchases of facility equipment.
  • Provides feedback and periodic reports for stakeholders
  • Proposes ideas to improve services
  • Ensures compliance and satisfaction of external and internal clients
  • Communicates and fosters relationships with facility clients and patrons
  • Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars and other basic office support software
  • Uses various software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and graphics software to enter, create, assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports
