Description

Overview
The Library for the Performing Arts (LPA) hosts over 200 public programs and events in our 200+ seat auditorium, in our flexible spaces, and on the larger Lincoln Center campus, all in service to highlighting its archival holdings and inspiring the next generation of artists and arts lovers. The Production Manager supports public programs and events by providing technical expertise and logistics management across internal and external teams.

We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own:
  • Technical production and resource management in the auditorium and other non-traditional performance spaces, including the operation of audio/lighting/film/video equipment during events and the logistical/administrative planning of programs and special events
  • And update venue paperwork, technical specification sheets, equipment inventory, and organization of control rooms, production spaces, storage areas, etc.
Teach:
  • Colleagues and performers, clients, vendors, and other partners and stakeholders regarding event-related needs
  • And onboards hourly/part-time technical staff about venues, equipment, and production workflows at the Library
Learn:
  • The production team's workflows, balancing on-your-feet event work with necessary administrative tasks
  • The role of public programs within the Library’s overall services
  • To create and execute events at a world-class level with a public library budget
Improve:
  • Working with coordinators, managers, and leaders across departments and recommend improvements to logistical workflows
Some expectations for this role are that within:
1 month, this person will:
  • Complete the onboarding journey both general to NYPL and specific to our team
  • Learn the nuts and bolts of how to produce programs and events and how to work within our team and with other key colleagues across LPA and NYPL
3 months, this person will:
  • Jump in and manage all day-of-event details and help advance upcoming programs
  • Learn as they go about our processes, library policies, and institutional and team goals
6 months and beyond, this person will:
  • Achieve seamless integration with the rest of the team, representing us to other key collaborators across NYPL and beyond
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all production logistics for the Library for the Performing Arts
  • Work with internal and external partners, producers, and production teams to coordinate the logistic and technical needs of each event or program, from the initial stages of development through to execution
  • Create and track production budgets for public programs and events, advise on department budget
  • Manage and lead load-ins and load-outs, production meetings, and resource planning
  • Maintains and updates technical specification sheets, venue paperwork, equipment inventory, and organization of audio/video booths, equipment, and storage areas
  • Manage a team of on-call production staff who operate audio/lighting/film/video equipment during events, both on-site in traditional venues, across the building in non-traditional spaces, and online
  • Ensure that all work conforms to pre-established Library policies and industry standards.
  • Works on various Audio-Visual projects throughout the building, including in non-traditional performance spaces
  • Performs other assigned duties as necessary

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of additional related experience
Required Experience
  • 5+ years of experience with high-profile events in a fast-paced environment, with meticulous attention to detail and superior organizational skills
Required Skills
  • Efficiency with Google Workspace apps, Microsoft Office, on both MacOS and Windows
  • Deep knowledge with theatre/cinema technology and equipment, including digital and film projection, theatrical lighting, audio systems, mixing live sound, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills; Skilled at collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to think quickly and troubleshoot both show-night problems alongside infrastructure
Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manages 12 hourly staff including: Local 306 Technicians/Projectionists, Videographers, and a Library Page

Schedule
35 hours per week. This is an on-site position with some flexibility for remote work. Able to work outside of standard business hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
