Job summary

Jobtailor in Maryland seeks an experienced events professional to set up and break down furniture, equipment, and AV for front- and back-of-house events. You will provide banquet food and beverage support and coordinate communications with staff and vendors.

Responsibilities include monitoring buffets, reviewing event setups, ensuring safety with Maintenance, and supervising security and reception as needed.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience with a high-level hotel or catering company as a server, houseman or Captain.
• Experience in non-profits, event centers, and/or historic buildings is a plus.
• Some experience with Audio/Visual equipment is highly desired.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Spanish is highly desirable.
• Strong inter-cultural communication skills; maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact for working with diverse people.
• Supervisory and project management experience is desirable.
• Comfortable using computers, smartphones, app- and web-based systems.
• Must be a resident of Maryland, Washington, DC, or Virginia.
• Must be able to climb stairs, stand/walk for extended periods, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Available for a variable full-time schedule including early mornings and late nights; some weekends.
• May be required to work during emergency closings.
• Must submit both a resume and a cover letter.
• Ability to perform essential functions through training, education, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up and break down furniture, equipment, and AV for front- and back-of-house events.
• Provide banquet food and beverage support and coordinate communications with staff and vendors.
• Set up food and beverage breaks, meals, and drop-offs in the buildings.
• Monitor buffets to ensure items are full and presentable.
• Review event setups for accuracy and identify maintenance and housekeeping needs.
• Oversee general safety and security in collaboration with the Maintenance team, including securing doors, gates, and windows.
• Provide limited event security and reception services as needed.
• Restock pantry supplies for both houses weekly and report shortages to the Banquet Captain.
• Complete organizational administrative responsibilities, including inventories, on time.
• Perform and oversee event operations, food and beverage setup and monitoring, and occasional tangential Housekeeping, Security, and Maintenance functions.
• Coordinate and direct individual tasks and team efforts according to changing event priorities.
• Work under the supervision of the Event Banquet Captain.
