Job summary

The University of Minnesota is seeking a part-time Catering Assistant to support event service across campus spaces. You will deliver, setup, serve, and clean during and after events, coordinating with the events and facilities teams to ensure smooth operations.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, food safety knowledge, and the ability to complete TIPS training before first shift; evenings and weekends availability is required, with a valid driver’s license for Arboretum vehicle duties.

Qualifications

  • Driver's license and ability to drive an Arboretum vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver catering orders from the kitchen to event spaces; may drive to Arboretum campus areas.
  • Put out and clean up tablecloths and napkins.
  • Set up beverage stations, food drops, and buffets.
  • Table service as events require.
  • Serve during buffets.
  • Clean up after service and organize supplies/inventory.
  • Work with events team, facilities team, and catering staff.
  • Communicate challenges, guest complaints or requests to Supervisor.
  • Respond to Supervisor's instructions and directions.
  • Observe all safety procedures during duties.
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude toward guests and staff.
  • Arrive on time in uniform and ready to work.
  • Adhere to liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcohol.

Job Responsibilities
  • Delivering catering orders from the kitchen to event spaces, with occasional need to drive to various areas of the Arboretum campus.
  • Putting out and cleaning up tablecloths and napkins
  • Setting up beverage stations, food drops, and buffets
  • Table service as events require
  • Serving during buffets
  • Cleaning up after food and beverage service, including cleaning and organizing of supplies/inventory
  • Working effectively and efficiently with the events team, facilities team, and catering staff
  • Expediently communicating any challenges, guest complaints or requests to the Supervisor
  • Responding to the Supervisor's instructions and directions.
  • Observing all safety procedures during the execution of assigned duties
  • Maintaining a positive and professional attitude towards guests, co-workers and management.
  • Arriving at scheduled start time in appropriate uniform and ready to work.
  • Adhering to all State, Federal, and Organizational liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to ensure
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage safety
  • Able to successfully complete T.I.P.S. Training and any other required training before first shift
  • Ability to read, speak and understand the English language in order to communicate with guests and take orders.
  • Available for evenings and weekends
  • Driver's License and ability to drive an Arboretum vehicle (Per UMN Policy)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiar with Arboretum spaces, personnel, and practices
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 a hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
