Job summary

Port St. Lucie Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented Admissions Clerk for evening shifts to support patient intake in our behavioral health facility, handling insurance verification, pre-certifications, and document processing.

You will collaborate with nursing and admissions staff, maintain patient confidentiality under HIPAA, and help manage information flow, notifications, and workflows across the department.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–3 years of healthcare experience preferred, ideally in behavioral health or mental health.
• Experience with insurance verification and pre-certification processes preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and third-party reimbursement programs.
• Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and process incoming electronic and faxed admissions documents
• Verify insurance coverage and communicate information to nursing and admissions teams
• Complete insurance pre-certifications and document outcomes accurately
• Maintain accurate documentation and properly close out S-Faxes
• Time-stamp and organize incoming documentation
• Assist with hospital codes and emergency situations as needed
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA standards
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
• Support departmental projects and additional administrative duties as assigned
