Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is seeking Full-time Cooks responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of daily meals and special events at The Governor's Academy, a prestigious independent day and boarding school located in Byfield, MA.

The Cook will engage in high-volume meal production, follow recipes, ensure food safety, and collaborate with production teams to optimize quality and efficiency in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–4 years of prior cook experience preferred in high-volume kitchens.
• ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience with high-volume food service, preferably in school environments.
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure.
• Professional conduct with strong communication and problem-solving.
• Flexibility to switch locations and duties, lift up to 50 lbs.
• Commitment to food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Participate in preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, bread, desserts, and other items
• Prepare items in batches close to serving time to ensure quality and minimize waste
• Follow recipes and suggest changes to improve quality and presentation
• Cook and store foods at required temperatures; maintain food safety
• Take and record temperatures; adhere to sanitation standards
• Maintain production records for forecasts and leftovers
• Assist with organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms
• Attend production meetings and contribute ideas on leftovers utilization and efficiency
• Perform duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation practices
• Other duties as assigned
