Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Licensed and currently registered to practice professional nursing in New York State.
• BSN or five years of acute care nursing experience.
• Under New York State Education Law 6905 (BSN in 10), all RNs licensed on or after December 19, 2017 must obtain a BSN within 10 years.
• Progressive leadership experience appropriate to position in an acute care facility for at least two years.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association within six months of employment.
• Excellent supervisory and communication skills for coordinating staff activities and interpreting policies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise nursing, social work and counseling staff on off shifts (evening, weekends, holidays).
• Plan and manage staffing schedules with appropriate skill mix.
• Evaluate staff performance and conduct performance reviews and competencies.
• Mentor, train, and provide ongoing education to nursing staff.
• Ensure clinical care meets established standards and protocols; maintain patient safety.
• Maintain accurate records of patient care and staff activities; participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Serve as liaison between clinical staff and hospital administration and ensure policy adherence.
