Job summary

University of Florida, Library West, is seeking Student Assistants for Fall 2026 to staff the Circulation Desk, assist visitors, and support library services. The role emphasizes friendly customer service, accurate checking in/out, and helping with printers, scanners, and general duties.

Shifts include weekends and weekday closing hours, with 8–10 hours per week. Availability after August 10, 2026 through Fall 2026 is required, with potential extension beyond the term.

Qualifications

• Federal Work Study Eligibility REQUIRED - NO EXCEPTIONS!
• Must be dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and courteous
• Must be able to consistently work weekends and closing shifts
• Ability to manage time and commitments effectively, including scheduled work hours
• Ability to follow detailed instructions
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Experience with technology and applications
• Must be able to lift and push up to 25 lbs

Responsibilities

• Staff the circulation desk on the second floor of Library West
• Search the UF catalog to determine location and availability of materials for checkout
• Follow policy and procedure when checking out/returning materials
• Search, retrieve, check out, and return course reserve materials
• Answer telephone calls and provide directional assistance
• Assist patrons with general questions and refer to staff or faculty when needed
• Assist patrons with printers, scanners, workstations, and other equipment
• Perform general library duties and/or projects as needed
• Report missing and damaged library items
• Keep workstation clean, sanitized, and stocked
• Periodically patrol library to collect browsed items and report issues
• Patrol to uphold library policies as needed
• Assist with weekend/weekday closing procedures and weekend opening procedures
• Assist in creating displays and crafts under staff supervision
