Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA seeks a Journeyman Temporary Services Electrician to support 3 pm–11 pm shifts, installing and maintaining temporary electrical systems on ships and piers. Must access Navy installations with required badges and no security clearance is needed.

The role emphasizes reading schematics, following NAVSEA standards, and training junior electricians, with opportunities to lead a small team and prepare required reports.

Qualifications

• Must have a superior understanding of electrical safety and good work practices.
• Must meet or exceed all Journeyperson Trade 3 requirements.
• Must be able to plan, organize and prioritize.
• Must have excellent personal skills working with others.
• Must be able to oversee a small group of people as a team.
• Must be able to conduct advanced training to J1-J3 Trade personnel in the execution of work.
• Must be proficient in the applicable NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, NSTM’s, and regulatory body regulations.
• Must be able to draft and submit required reports as required.
• Must be able to draft and submit Condition Found Reports.
• Must be proficient at reading and interpreting electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret electrical schematics with guidance.
• Lay out and install Temporary Service equipment and cabling IAW NSI.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems to component level on Temporary Service equipment.
• Lead and train junior electricians with minimal supervision.
• Set up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods IAW NAVSEA and government requirements.
• Draft and submit Condition Found Reports and other required reports.
• Ensure compliance with NAVSEA standards and OSHA/NSTM regulations.
