Job summary

ECU Health Medical Center in North Carolina is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to participate in collection, decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, wrapping, scanning, sterilizing, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instruments.

The role collaborates with departments to ensure safe instrument reprocessing and upholds high standards of customer service for internal and external customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• More than 2 years of sterile processing experience.
• No certification required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure instrumentation is collected, cleaned, decontaminated, assembled, sterilized and/or high-level disinfected per AAMI.
• Verify instruments are open, bioburden-free and functional before sterilization.
• Follow IFUs; alert supervisor if IFU's are needed.
• Maintain biological/chemical wash solutions for decontamination.
• Document sterilization records per AAMI and department policy.
• Sort mismatched instrument sets and advise on missing pieces.
• Prepare procedure carts with required instruments per department schedule.
• Maintain a clean, OSHA-compliant work area.
