Job summary

Mercy House in Buena Park, CA is seeking a Shelter Specialist to provide supportive services during evening shifts within the Emergency Shelter Program. You will help with shelter setup, maintain cleanliness, and conduct neighborhood patrols while delivering crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.

This full-time, non-exempt role requires working Monday-Wednesday 3:00 pm–11:00 pm and Thursday-Friday 4:00 pm–11:00 pm.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with individuals with urgent multiple health needs.
• Trauma-informed, housing-focused shelter approach.
• Ability to perform crisis intervention when needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist shelter setup and maintenance for a safe, guest-focused environment.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety, including trash and spills.
• Assist with receiving and verifying orders from vendors.
• Set up and monitor audio equipment.
• Conduct neighborhood patrols to minimize community impact.
• Keep daily summary sheets and assist with reporting.
