Job summary

Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking a Security Officer for the 3pm–11pm shift at the Mechanicsville facility. You will monitor access, patrol the site, respond to safety concerns, and assist employees, visitors, and customers in a visible security role.

The position requires security experience, DCJS eligibility, and the ability to work nights or weekends. The agency emphasizes safety, service, and a professional security presence.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid Virginia driver''s license required.
• Working knowledge of security principles and practices; safety and security concepts; law enforcement and investigative techniques; and fire prevention and protection procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with coworkers, agency staff, outside agencies, and the general public.
• Skill in operating a multi-line telephone system, security equipment, personal computers, Microsoft Office applications, electronic fire and security alarm systems, and motor vehicles.
• Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations and apply defensive tactics and established response procedures when necessary.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, resolve problems, prioritize competing demands, and make decisions in accordance with agency policies and protocols.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Authority staff, outside agencies, and the public.
• Ability to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions.
• Must be available to work any of three shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Experience as a law enforcement officer, security officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to obtain certification as an Unarmed Security Officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, which may require extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting

Responsibilities

• Conduct interior and exterior walking patrols of the complex per policies and procedures.
• Inspect security, fire, HVAC, and electrical systems to ensure proper operation.
• Monitor access control, surveillance, and fire alarm systems and respond to alarms.
• React to security incidents and emergencies, notifying appropriate personnel or emergency services as needed.
• Prepare and submit incident reports and shift activity logs in a timely manner.
• Serve as the first point of contact for employees, visitors, vendors, and customers, providing professional customer service.
