Job summary

Pocahontas County Schools is seeking a Long-term Substitute Custodian at Pocahontas County High School to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment that supports student learning.

The role covers cleaning, grounds, minor repairs, and facility preparation with a 2:00 PM–10:00 PM shift. Employment through the 2026-2027 school year or until a regular custodian returns, based on WV policies. Requires a HS diploma or GED, state exam qualification, and background check.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED as per WV code.
• Must pass state prescribed exam for this position.
• Criminal background check required per WV code.
• Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities described in the job description.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining clean facilities, classrooms, restrooms, and grounds to support a safe learning environment.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain floors and other surfaces.
• Clean and restock restrooms; manage waste disposal.
• Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance as needed.
• Inspect facilities for safety concerns and report needs to supervisor.
• Prepare facilities for school events and activities.
