Job summary

Fayette County School Corporation is seeking a 2nd Shift Custodian to perform general cleaning and maintenance in school facilities. Under supervision, you will maintain equipment, prepare rooms for events, and support students, teachers, and staff.

Responsibilities include cleaning floors and surfaces, setting up rooms, snow removal, and assisting with deliveries. The role requires reliability, basic math, and ability to work in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.
• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
• Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
• Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts.
• Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).

Responsibilities

• Check and secure building at shift start and end for safety and cleanliness.
• Clean rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways and other areas according to district standards.
• Sweep, mop, buff, strip, and wax floors.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
• Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
• Remove graffiti, clean glass areas.
• Set up and break down chairs, tables and equipment for meetings.
• Clear snow from entrances and walks and spread ice-melting chemicals.
• Perform grounds-keeping duties and maintain grounds.
• Receive deliveries and assist in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
• Deliver supplies and materials to classrooms and other areas.
• Empty wastebaskets and assist in recycling program.
• Additional duties include maintenance during vacations, assisting visitors at events, and other tasks as assigned.
