Job summary

Regional School Unit No. 57 in Waterboro, Maine is seeking a Custodian for the 2nd shift at Waterboro Elementary School. You will report to the Head Custodian and assist with cleaning, maintenance, and site security during the shift.

The role requires physical work including lifting and moving, with responsibilities across classrooms, restrooms, and common areas, plus snow removal and special event support as needed.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent.
• Ability to clean equipment and machines.
• Some knowledge of use and handling of cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers.
• Maintain a generally positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Cleans assigned areas of the facility, including classrooms, hallways, rest rooms, and common areas.
• Performs general maintenance tasks related to the upkeep and operation of the facility.
• See to the general security of the facility during regular shifts, making sure doors are locked and secured, etc.
• Reports to the Head Custodian (or Lead Custodian at smaller schools) and informs them of any building maintenance concerns that would require additional support from the Building Maintenance Department.
• Takes part in snow removal: shoveling, snow blowing/plowing, sand/salt treatment of walkways.
• During summer months, performs total cleaning and general maintenance of the building.
• Observes all district policies and procedures.
• Constant lifting of 5-20 pounds; Frequent lifting 20 to 50 pounds; Constant walking and standing; Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, climbing and kneeling.
• Occasional crawling, sitting, stooping.
• Exposure to cold or warm temperatures for extended periods.
• Under supervision, assist in setup of Special Events.
• Performs such other tasks as assigned.
