Qualifications

• Must be able to work in an environment with continuous interruptions.
• Must be able to assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, department and hospital.
• Must be able to adapt in a high stress and fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions.
• Must be able to detect sounds and respond to emergency sounds/signals at all times.
• Must be able to constantly operate computer, equipment and other devices.
• Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty (60) minutes at a time.
• Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day.
• Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet the standards set forth by governing bodies. Current standards are 24 ECE credits over a two-year period depending on year of birth.
• The ARRT registration and radiographic credentials are required upon hire.
• CPR/BLS certification within 90 days of hire must be completed.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and some special procedure imaging.
• Prepares, positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing protocol requirements.
• Assists radiologists during procedures as necessary.
• Operates and cares for radiology equipment; develops films and CDs.
• Adheres to radiation protection principles to minimize exposure.
• Maintains cleanliness of work areas and reports equipment malfunctions.
• Performs QA calibrations and orders supplies as needed.
• Performs routine office duties and uses Meditech or RIS/PACS systems.

Education

High School Required and Certificate allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital based program.

ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT) and radiograph (R)

NY State DOH Licensure Upon Hire Required or NY State DOH Limited Permit Upon Hire Required and DOH IV Certification within 180 Days Required

BLS - American Heart Association within 90 Days Required
