Job summary

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) seeks an experienced nurse leader to oversee nursing services during the 2:30 PM–11:00 PM shift across COBH facilities in Columbus. This permanent, full-time role requires a current RN license in Ohio and psychiatric nursing experience.

Responsibilities include coordinating staff, ensuring a safe, therapeutic milieu, and maintaining compliance with Joint Commission and other standards. Competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• RN license in Ohio as issued by the Board of Nursing.
• 24 months' experience in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities.
• 3 months training or 3 months' experience in employee training & development.
• 3 courses or 9 months' experience in public relations.
• 3 courses or 9 months' experience in counseling.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate nursing services for all patients on assigned shift within COBH main and Moritz buildings.
• Provide oversight during psychiatric and medical emergencies with timely clinical response.
• Ensure implementation of thorough and timely staff briefings.
• Monitor nurses' record completion for accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain a therapeutic milieu focused on quality patient care on all units on your shift.
• Maintain knowledge of DBH and COBH policies, safety and infection control.
• Handle admission requests and collaborate with physicians to determine appropriateness based on hospital criteria; manage admission processes and assessments.
• Make rounds throughout shift to determine needs of staff and patients.
• Assure completion of all shift reports.
• Serve as contact for families, external agencies and staff; coordinate off-ground appointments as needed.
• Assure compliance with accrediting agencies (Joint Commission, Medicare/Medicaid, etc).
• Facilitate use of team scheduling; ensure adequate coverage based on patient acuity; manage overtime; approve/disprove leave.
• Counsel, coach, and mentor staff; participate in continuing education and training of staff.
