Job summary

Olympia Fields Hospital in Olympia Fields, IL is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician to perform skin puncture and venipuncture on patients of all ages for blood specimens.

Under supervision of Laboratory Director/Manager/Supervisor, you will handle data entry, specimen processing across microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank, and may assist across departments or night shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program or equivalent on-the-job training with documented competency required.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician required.
• BLS certification within forty-five days of hire and maintained current, according to hospital requirement.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages.
• Perform computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique and use of equipment.
• Collect specimens from newborns to geriatrics across multiple departments.
• Process specimens for microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank.
• Load/process specimens on automated instruments per policy.
• May assist in sample pickup at hospital/OR and support lab staff across departments and shifts.
• May work multi-departments or night shift/graveyard shift.
• May be delegated as Phlebotomy Lead.
• Other tasks as assigned by manager/director.
