Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is seeking a Pathologist's Assistant to provide Anatomic Pathology services under the direction of a pathologist. The role focuses on specimen processing, description, dissection, and preparation for histology, with emphasis on accuracy and patient care.

This full‑time position offers evenings (11:30am–8pm), a 40‑hour work week, and opportunities to participate in teaching residents and PA students.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Pathologist Assistant Studies is required.
• 2-5 years of experience in pathology assistant work.
• ASCP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Specimen Processing: Prepare, describe, dissect, and photograph surgical tissue specimens; ensure accurate accessioning and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
• Technical and Frozen Section Support: Assist with frozen section procedures, including tissue cutting, slide staining, and specimen transport.
• Research & Tissue Banking: Identify and collect normal and tumor tissue samples for the Tumor Bank to support clinical care and research initiatives.
• Education & Professional Development: Contribute to training of residents and PA students; participate in ongoing education and professional development.
• Quality Assurance & Professional Development: Ensure equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and supply levels; uphold departmental policies and standards.
