Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook, NY, is seeking a Nursing Station Clerk (NSC Trainee) for the full-time evening shift (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM). The role supports inpatient or outpatient units, greets visitors, answers phones, performs data entry, maintains daily and clinical logs, and assists with medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions.

Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and knowledge of patient care.

Qualifications

• One year of full-time clerical (in a health care setting), secretarial (in a health care setting), or patient care experience.
• Provisional Appointment: temporary provisional appointment may be considered if no eligible list with three or more candidates.
• 55b/c Appointment: eligible with 55b/c eligibility letter.
• Section 70.1 Transfer: one year of permanent competitive service in a transferable title.

Responsibilities

• Orient patient and/or family to unit and provide general information about room, unit and hospital.
• Give information on patient condition within policies and direct visitors to appropriate locations.
• Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts or computer files and by filling medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions.
• Receive new admissions.
• Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log and clinic log.
