Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is hiring a Patient Transporter for full-time evening/night shifts. The role involves transporting patients, verifying identity, and ensuring safety.

You will disinfect equipment between transports and assist patients as needed, while maintaining infection control standards and reporting maintenance needs. Education includes a high school diploma or equivalent; certification like BLS is required within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS through American Heart Association (or within 90 days of employment).
• Preferred: At least 1 year experience with patient transport handling.

Responsibilities

• Specifically responsible for transporting patients as assigned.
• Responsible for verifying patient identity using two patient identifiers.
• Provide and adjust transport equipment for safety and comfort of the patient (e.g., appropriate line, side rails).
• Required to disinfect/wipe down equipment with approved cleaning product between patient transports.
• Assist patients onto transport equipment and seek assistance from patient care when needed.
• Show ownership over transport equipment, including routine cleaning and reporting maintenance needs.
• Notify nursing or ancillary personnel upon arrival or departure of patients.
• Attend to care of documents related to the patient (e.g., ticket to ride).
• Report immediately any unusual symptoms during transport (e.g., fainting, shortness of breath).
• Move and care for transport equipment for patient movement.
• Use infection control precautions (hand hygiene, PPE, isolation) to prevent infection.
• Safely transport patient oxygen after setup by clinician.
• Provide feedback to management regarding equipment conditions and availability.
• Other duties as assigned.
