Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Associate at Monmouth Medical Center. This role supports patients in a behavioral health setting under RN supervision, contributing to a safe, recovery-focused environment.

You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver compassionate care, document observations, and assist with daily activities and therapeutics. Evening shifts, full-time, with weekend/holiday coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree or 5+ years of experience in a psychiatric services setting is required or the AIMS training program.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification is required.
• Previous experience in behavioral health or healthcare is preferred.
• Schedule: Full Time, Evening shift (2:00 PM – 11:30 PM).
• Two winter and two summer holidays annually may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to patients in a behavioral health setting, ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment.
• Observe and report changes in patient behavior to the clinical care team promptly.
• Assist with activities of daily living while promoting independence and dignity.
• Facilitate participation in therapeutic groups and structured daily programming.
• Use verbal de-escalation and therapeutic communication to manage challenging behaviors.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient observations and interventions.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, therapists and the interdisciplinary team for coordinated care.
• Maintain a safe and clean treatment environment following policies.
• Assist with patient hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and essential procedures.
• Transport patients to related departments and the emergency room as needed.
• Respond to emergencies and uphold unit safety and confidentiality.
• Pursue ongoing professional development and training.
