Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Mental Health Associate to support patients in a behavioral health unit. The role involves providing direct patient care, supervising sessions, and fostering a safe, therapeutic environment.

You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to promote recovery and well-being. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Psychology, have at least one year of related experience, and possess BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology or closely related field.
• Minimum of one-year of experience, training, or education in psychiatric treatment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to patients in a behavioral health setting.
• Supervise patients in group and individual settings to ensure safety and therapeutic engagement.
• Facilitate educational and recreational group activities and structured daily programming.
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including feeding, bathing, toileting, and grooming.
• Observe patient behaviors and communicate concerns to the clinical care team.
• Use verbal de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication to manage challenging behaviors.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient observations and interventions.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, therapists and other team members for coordinated care.
