Job summary

Hearst Newspapers – Big Rapids, Michigan is seeking a Newspaper Printing Mailroom / Packaging Department Manager. You will lead the mailroom, packaging, inserting and commercial finishing teams, ensuring safety, quality and on-time production.

The ideal candidate has hands-on equipment experience (inserting, inkjet addressing, stitching or finishing) and strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of leadership or supervisory experience in newspaper production or printing.
• Experience managing employees in a deadline-driven production environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot production equipment.
• Ability to operate equipment and work alongside the production team.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/printing education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operations of the mailroom, packaging, inserting, mailing and commercial finishing departments.
• Ensure safety, productivity, quality and on-time production goals.
• Train and coach evening shift staff.
• Coordinate labor, equipment and materials based on production schedules.
• Operate and troubleshoot production equipment as needed.
• Maintain records for production, maintenance and quality.
