Job summary

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Specimen Processor to cover the processing area of the Laboratory. The role involves receiving, sorting, identifying, processing, and distributing specimens and entering data into the computer system.

This full-time position runs 1:45 pm–10:15 pm with shifts every third weekend and holiday. Responsibilities include quality control, safety, and training of new staff in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to handle specimens with care and accuracy.
• Experience with high-volume lab workflows is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and safety practices required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate service orientation and courtesy in all interactions.
• Monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries for timely processing.
• Investigate mistakes, resolve problems, and complete quality forms.
• Separate by centrifugation, label tubes, and transfer samples per policy.
• Verify specimens against requisitions and enter receive times in LIS.
• Prepare, package and send specimens to outside locations as needed.
• Disinfect work area and assist in training new processors.
• Perform routine clerical duties as directed.
