Job summary

UPMC Hamot is seeking a dedicated Specimen Processor to join our laboratory team. This full-time role operates Monday through Friday, 4:00am–12:30pm, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage.

The position involves receiving, sorting, and processing specimens, entering data into the LIS, and supporting lab operations to ensure timely testing. Ideal applicants have a high school diploma and 3–6 months in a clinical lab or service environment, with strong communication skills and adherence to

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 3–6 months of experience in a clinical laboratory or medical environment preferred.
• 3–6 months of service industry experience (call center or distribution) preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, identify, and process specimens for testing.
• Enter requisition information and results into the Laboratory Information System.
• Answer calls, train new employees, and perform related clerical duties.
• Verify specimens against paperwork and proper labeling; prepare and ship specimens as needed.
• Monitor workflow and prioritize specimens in accordance with lab policies.
• Disinfect work area and participate in orientation of new staff.
