Job summary

UPMC Shadyside is hiring a casual per diem Specimen Processor to support the Automated Testing Lab. Daylight shifts with start times between 4:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. This role is the gatekeeper for all specimens, ensuring accuracy of patient samples and timely delivery to the correct locations.

No prior laboratory experience is required; training is provided. The position offers a clear path toward Medical Laboratory Scientist and welcomes applicants from high school to advanced degrees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required with great attention to detail and a willingness to learn clinical laboratory processes.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate service orientation and courtesy in all interactions with nurses and physicians.
• Monitor and prioritize specimen deliveries to ensure timely processing.
• Label, aliquot, and prepare specimens according to policy and proper temperatures.
• Enter specimen receive times and manage laboratory paperwork and requisitions.
• Assist in training new staff and perform routine clerical duties as directed.
