UVA Health is seeking a Lab Lead Technician, Specimen Management, to oversee evening and night shift specimen receiving and processing in the Core Lab. You will provide hands-on leadership, coaching, and quality oversight while coordinating workflow with managers and fellow leaders.

The role emphasizes guiding workflow during automation rebuilds, training staff, and ensuring accurate specimen handling. This is a frontline leadership path for experienced specimen processors seeking growth.

Qualifications

Education: Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT); OR Associate Degree or 60 semester hours with 6 hours in Chemistry and 6 hours in Biology and Accredited MLT Training; OR Bachelor’s in Biology/Chemistry or related science required.
ASCP certification within 24 months or military equivalent to ASCP.

Responsibilities

Oversee evening and night shift specimen receiving and processing operations within the Core Lab.
Receive, accession, process, centrifuge, aliquot, and route specimens to testing destinations.
Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support for laboratory support staff.
Train new team members and reinforce quality and safety practices.
Monitor work quality and help prevent, identify, and correct processing errors.
Serve as a key decision-maker for evening shift workflow management.
Support continuity during major lab transformation initiatives.
