Job summary

Henry Ford Warren Hospital is seeking a Lab Assistant for evening hours (1:30 pm to 10:00 pm) with a 3-day rotating schedule and every other weekend. The role includes receiving and sorting clinical lab specimens, preparing them for testing, and documenting information in the system.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and preferred one year of medical or lab experience. Candidates should be detail‑oriented, able to multitask, and comfortable handling biological specimens.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1+ year medical or lab experience.
• Comfortable with handling biological specimens.
• Ability to accurately identify specimens.
• Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
• High attention to detail with ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet turnaround times.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
• Must be able to pass a color vision test.
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Receive and sort clinical lab specimens.
• Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.
• Scan and/or enter specimen and patient information.
• Ensure lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
• Troubleshoot specimen-related issues.
• Replenish test bench supplies as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested.
• Follow all SOPs to ensure safety and quality standards.
