Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to all stakeholders, answering telephones and greeting customers professionally.
• Collaborate with clients to resolve discrepancies such as unclear orders or sample integrity issues.
• Guide clients on tube selection, collection techniques, test names, and reference laboratory information.
• Obtain specimens for testing according to policies and regulatory requirements for inpatients, outpatients, and off-site locations.
• Ensure proper patient and sample identification, resolve discrepancies before procedure.
• Perform venous and capillary specimen collection using appropriate techniques, minimizing patient discomfort.
• Collect specimens from other sources including urine and swab techniques; instruct outpatients on special specimen collection.
• Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic technique and precaution procedures.
• Keep collection sites organized, restocked, and disinfected.
• Document relevant information on appropriate forms and in computer systems.
• Maintain requisition binders and ensure all orders are clear and compliant.
• Process specimens before testing, resolving unclear orders with providers or charge nurses; consult supervisors when needed.
• Verify specimen and patient identity throughout processing.
• Perform pre-analytical specimen processing including aliquotting, transferring, or repackaging.
• Maintain accuracy in demographics and test orders.
• Recognize potential errors and take steps to resolve them proactively.
• Perform administrative duties such as charging, filing, and quality maintenance.
• Assist technologists and supervisors with general administrative functions.
• Communicate during shift changes to ensure smooth transitions.
• Work collaboratively with coworkers, technologists, and staff across departments.
• Provide logistical support to technologists and assist non-laboratory staff.
• Seek opportunities to assist others and demonstrate flexibility in all shifts.
• Communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and other contacts.
• Complete policy and procedure updates within 30 days of posting.
• Participate in continuing education, obtaining necessary CME credits.
• Share technical knowledge and experience with coworkers and customers.
• Participate in committees, workgroups, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Support departmental initiatives and goals.
• Assist in training new employees, technologists, and support staff.
