Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Security Officer to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. You will patrol facilities, respond to emergencies, control access, and document incidents, while supporting clinical teams in high-risk situations.

The role requires de-escalation skills, professional communication, and adherence to policies. A valid driver’s license and a high school diploma are required, with on-site duties at multiple hospital

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Completion of a de-escalation/crisis intervention course within 90 days.
Valid driver’s license required for all hires after Apr 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

Maintain visible security presence and conduct patrols to identify hazards and security breaches.
Respond quickly to emergencies and crises using de-escalation techniques.
Assist clinical teams during high-risk patient encounters as directed.
Enforce safety policies and document violations for escalation.
Operate access control points and screening equipment for secure ingress/egress.
Provide exceptional customer service and escort visitors and staff as needed.
Communicate updates via two-way radios and maintain radio protocol.
Document incidents clearly for reports and logs.
